Ting internet

Ting is originally a mobile services company that belongs to a company called Tucows that is based in Toronto, Canada. Ting started to offer mobile services in February 2012 and they stand out from other mobile carriers in that they do not have a yearly contract. This makes it a good alternative to other major mobile providers. Ting charges the customer based on the voice minutes, and the actual amount of data usage. They do not charge the regulatory recapture fees in the bills. Their customers come mostly from referrals and you don’t have to pay any tethering fees when you connect multiple devices to the Wifi.

Ting decided to introduce internet services plan into the market starting in 2012. They want to build a fiber optic network just like what Google did in Kansas City and other metropolitan areas. They made this decision in hope to profit from areas that are left behind and do not have high speed internet.

Ting acquired about 70% of the shares in the Blue Ridge InternetWorks in order to offer the high speed internet services. Blue Ridge InternetWorks already own about 35 miles of fiber optic network in Charlottesville. Ting wireless services is compatible with selected devices including Sprint CDMA and T-Mobile GSM. To make sure the device is compatible, you have the option of purchasing it via the Ting website. The ting devices are also sold at other third party sites. Ting has only started to offer the Gigabit high speed internet services in November of 2014.

Ting offers internet services in selected areas including Charlottesville in Virginia, Westminster in Maryland, Holly Springs in North Carolina and Greater Sandpoint in Idaho. Charlottesville is the first region to receive the Ting internet services mainly because BRI already have fiber infrastructure there. Most people in Charlottesville only get average internet speed that range from 20 – 30 Mbps. So, Ting decided that they wanted to offer something different by making available the 1,000 Mbps Gigabit for the residents there. You can check whether Ting high speed internet service is available in your area by entering your physical address at the Ting website.

There are 2 levels of internet plans including the Gigabit and 5/5 plans. The Gigabit plan offers a download and upload speed of 1GB with unlimited data transfer monthly limit. The Gigabit plan costs $89 per month for home and $139 per month for business. The 5/5 plan offers a download and upload speed of 5 Mbps and you also get unlimited data transfer monthly limit. The 5/5 plan is only available for home and starts from $19 per month.

You will need a Ting internet box to set up the fiber optic internet in your home. You have the option of buying or renting the Ting internet box. It costs $200 to buy the Ting internet box and only $9 per month if you rent it. Besides, you will also have to pay for the installation cost which will not exceed $200 for home plan and $400 for business plan.
