Clearwire Corporation is a telecommunications company that offer fixed wireless and mobile broadband services. Its coverage areas include USA, Belgium and Spain. Clearwire was originally founded in 1998 as a spun off of the Sierra Technologies Inc. Clearwire relocated to Bellevue in Washington in 2012.
Before Sprint acquire all of Clearwire shares, the majority of the shares of Clearwire were owned by a number of companies and Sprint is the largest shareholder with 50.8%. Sprint Nextel decided to acquire the remaining shares on the 9th July 2013. Sprint Nextel has been successfully merged with Softbank Corp on the 10th July 2013.
Portland in Oregon is the first area to receive the Sprint 4G WiMAX fixed wireless broadband coverage. Later, they expanded their 4G network to another 87 markets. It is not known whether they will resume in going with their plan of launching WiMAX 3.0 following its acquisition by Sprint. Sprint introduced the first 4G cell phone called the HTC EVO 4G on the 4th June 2010. The HTC EVO 4G features the combination of the 4G network by Clearwire and Sprint 3G network. It is a device designed primarily for multimedia uses and it has features close to the Apple iPhone.
Clearwire has maintain a customer base of 134 millions subscribers in 88 markets in USA. It is one of the top 5 wireless internet provider in the USA. You can expect a download speed of 3 – 6 Mbit with the 4G fixed wireless mobile plan. Sometimes, the mobile wireless network can reach up to a speed of 10 Mbit/s.
The monthly price of the Clearwire mobile broadband plans ranges from $34.99 – $49.99. They provide the mobile broadband services primarily in the west and southwest areas as well as the southeast and northeastern regions. It offers the 4G WiMax in Spain in the range of 3.4 – 3.6 GHz. The 4G WiMax service is also available in Belgium.
In the USA, the Expedience fixed wireless services is offered in 17 markets. Previously, the Expedience fixed wireless services was offered in Ireland and Denmark but it was acquired by Imagine Communications. You have the choices of choosing from one of the two plans including 4G internet basic and 4G internet plan. The 4G Internet basic plan offers a download speed of 1.5 Mbps and an upload speed of 500 Kbps. The 4G internet basic plan costs $34.99 per month.
The 4G internet plan is faster and offers a download speed of 6 Mbps and an upload speed of 1 Mbps. The VOIP services is available in selected areas in USA. Clearwire does not put a cap on the amount of monthly data transfer for both of the plans they offer so you can download as much data as you want without paying for additional fee. Clear is the best option for heavy internet users because they don’t have many restrictions.
